Midlife Transition – it’s a Process

Dr. Toni La Motta

Transformation is a process – and we need to be patient in the transitions – I have found that to especially true about the midlife transition. I like the word transition – but I don’t always like the feeling!

I love dragonflies and so, I’ve done a lot of research on them and have learned a lot of lessons.
In one of the sites I researched, it said that “People with dragonfly medicine are dreamers. They can be perplexing and annoying to others. The dragonfly person may appear almost Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve been looking a lot lately at the concept of Shadow and how it appears in my (and everyone else’s life) and how different life can be when we embrace it fully. Ok – so, I’m still working on this one!

One of the authors I respect who writes about this (see her new book, The Shadow Effect – good stuff…)
I get her newsletter and she gave permission to share today’s message. Here goes:

It was one year ago today that we had people from around the world join together to take The Vow of Emotional Independence. After reading it over, I decided it was worthy of taking the vow again. So with a bit of a 2010 update, here it is.

When you have emotional independence, you want for nothing because you have everything. Just take a deep breath and think about this. Imagine feeling so full and so completely at peace inside yourself that you have the freedom to love and be loved, to give freely and to receive abundantly, to expand rather than contract, to move forward rather than stay stuck, to live in joy rather than suffer in misery. Emotional independence allows you to be in control rather than to be controlled by the unhealed emotions of your past and will support you in being nourished and filled with faith rather than diminished and weakened by fear.

Today is the day that we can stand together and take The Vow of Emotional Independence. So close your eyes and have the intention that you can be free, that you can be loved, that you can be abundant, that you can be healed, that you can be inspired, that you can be passionate, and that you can help change the world. And then open your eyes and please join me in taking the vow.

Midlife Transition: learning to live with the shadow

Dr. Toni La Motta

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what makes midlife so unique and challenging for so many people and I’m coming to see that it is the time in our lives when we most have to deal with our shadow self. Up to that point, many of us have ignored it, or lived through it! – but at midlife, we begin to question what to throw away and what to keep. We are confronted with the parts of our lives that haven’t lived up to our expectation and we sometimes think things will never change – ‘we are the way we are’. It’s at times like this that I am reminded of a Read the rest of this entry »
