Women and Midlife

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

This morning I had breakfast with a good friend who was lamenting that life didn’t turn out the way she had planned. Mine hasn’t either. And, I have been wondering lately how few people actually can say in midlife that their life took exactly the direction they expected.

How we handle this difference is hugely responsible for how we feel about our lives and also responsible for the future we are creating. I’ve learned to focus on the ‘essence’ of what I want in life, rather than the ‘it must be THIS way’ in almost every aspect of my life and it makes a major difference in how I am living. I like my life. Of  course, there is more that is possible. But, there will always be room for more. That’s the nature of growth - and it’s actually the nature of God itself - every expanding.

I’ve come to realize that unlike what I thought as a child, there is no “plan” that I have to fit into; there are no should’s in life and nothing that I am supposed to do. Instead, on a moment to moment basis, I can ask - does this feel good? AND -what am I grateful for? It’s a much better focus. Try it…

Midlife Crisis or Opportunity - Getting Clear

Friday, October 26th, 2007

The first step in experiencing or manifesting anything in our lives is to be clear on what it is we REALLY want. – The word REALLY is important here as you may or may not have yet discovered.

How do you get clear? And how Do you get to know what you REALLY Want?

Let’s start with some of the obstacles to knowing

1     I believe the number one obstacle is what I call the I don’t know syndrome – In all my years of counseling and helping people  and organizations get clear, the words I hear most often in answer to the question WHAT DO YOU WANT is I DON’T KNOW

Do you really not know? Or do you not want to know?

I’m going to invite you today to consider stopping saying I DON’T KNOW and helping to remind one another to do the same – are you game?
Why? because when we say I Don’t Know - the brain wants to cooperate

Suppose someone comes to your house for dinner and you don’t have salt on the table.  Get it in kitchen.  I can’t find it -  Brain doesn’t want to be wrong.

If you keep saying I don’t know – the divine intelligence in you will begin to agree.

Step one to knowing what you want – is to believe you do know because there is One Mind and you share that Mind and it knows all things - Stop saying I DON’T KNOW

Perhaps we don’t know what we want because we’ve never really thought about it – Most of us plan our vacations more than we do our lives.  Or we live with vague wants like ‘I want to be healthier,’ or ‘I want to win the lottery.’

Or maybe we ‘don’t know’ because if we did know, if we made a decision and followed it through and it was ‘wrong’ then what  – some people never make decisions because they are afraid to make a mistake and they don’t realize they can change their minds.

Or perhaps I don’t know means I don’t really believe in myself: ‘There’s no point wanting that. I’ll never get it.  I remember a time in my life when money was quite scarce – I gave up wanting…the very wanting that could have caused the universe to supply what I needed.

Or if we really go for what we want we might have to leave a lot of things behind and that’s scary – I know a lot of people don’t get into relationship that they say they want, because they don’t want to really give up the perks of being single.  Or people don’t get well, because they think that they won’t get sympathy or support.

And then there’s the person who says why bother knowing –because they have achieved things and then said– is that all there is.

Or we say I don’t know because we are so caught up in doing what other’s want that we’ve lost what we want. Notice if you are happy or sad depending upon another’s happiness or misery. Or when people ask what do you want for dinner or where do you want to go you say, It doesn’t matter… hmm…

Here’s a great book for anyone now saying “I Don’t Know”.

Intentional Abundance

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

How would you like your life to be?  Would you like to make a change or stay the way you are?  Most of us have some things we would like to change or have more of.  The good news is that intention and manifestation can help you create the life of your dreams!

Dr. Gay Hendricks is the author and co-author of more than twenty books dealing with personal growth, transformation, intention, and manifestation.  He defines manifestation as ‘the art of choosing how you want your life to be and turning those choices into reality.’

Through his research and studies, Dr. Hendricks has found that there are different levels of manifestation.  Much like laws we know in the physical world, Dr. Hendricks has also identified laws of manifestation that you can learn and use to create a life of your own design.

There is scientific backing for this law of attraction.  Isaac Newton, a 17th century scientist, discovered and published several laws of motion and physics, many of which still hold true today.  Newton discovered for every action, there is an equal reaction.  The practices of visualization, affirmations and positive thinking are based on these Newtonian principles.

The old adage “Like attracts Like” is also based on Newton‘s Laws.  Remember when you were in school and you first saw a magnet drawing metal filings around on a paper?  The energy of the iron magnet draws the energy of the iron filings to itself.  That is an example of the Law of Attraction.

Quantum physics has shown that thoughts are energy and can be measured.  When you think positive thoughts, positive energies will return to you.  Just like with the iron filings, what we think about, we bring about.  When you focus your thoughts on success, the law of attraction will draw success to you.

Albert Einstein taught us back in the 1920’s that everything (including our physical body) is composed of energy. As humans, at our most basic level, we are beings of energy.  Energy has vibrations - high ones and low ones.  The good news is that you can take advantage of this energy and learn to shift your consciousness to draw things to you.

Remember, thoughts are things.  We do not have to go chasing after things.  We can calm our minds, focus our thoughts, and bring about an alignment of purpose.  We can combine this alignment with positive thoughts and the law of attraction will bring amazing things to us.

Saint Francis of Assisi taught us ‘For it is in giving that we receive.’ Give back to society and you will see even more wonderful things come to you.  For your greatest success, determine how you can give back and define very clearly what is most important to you.

For instance, suppose you want a new job and more financial abundance.  You can go about this employment process in a traditional manner - employment agencies, executive search firms and the like.  It’s time consuming, often frustrating and usually expensive.

You can also take advantage of intention and manifestation.  First, determine what you have to offer.  Next, be very clear about what kind of job you want.  Decide how many dollars will give you abundance.

Focus on your positives, focus on what you can contribute, focus on the actual dollar amounts you want.  Visualize, affirm, intention and believe that what you now see as the perfect position will come.  Often something different and even better arrives.  Combine your intentions with the traditional means and watch the positive results flow into your world!

Henry J. Kaiser said ‘Opportunity comes in work clothes.’  Pay attention to what is in your life.  Sometimes what comes back to you looks different than what you envision.  That means you need to look closer at your thoughts.  You can use what is all around you to adjust and fine tune your thoughts and intentions.

Another life lesson to learn is: ‘Less is More.’  When you find yourself trying too hard, that is a signal to take time to open up your heart and mind a little bit more and ‘try’ a little bit less.  When you are in alignment, things will flow smoothly with ease and grace.  With practice, you can become very good at setting intentions with less effort and letting more things come to you.

Our physical bodies are actually an excellent broadcasting medium - they are stronger than our minds are.  When you calm your thoughts, you can physically feel an intention inside your body.  You can learn to send out that energy you are feeling as part of your intentioning process.

Many people have received great benefits when working together with another person.  You can take advantage of the power of the MasterMind to bring manifestation into a higher level.  In our experience, we have found that when two people are working together in harmony, intentions and manifestation are often much more powerful.

Together, in person or on the phone as Dr. Hendricks and I have done numerous times, be in focus and intention that you are in alignment.  Feel and sense that you are connected as one.  Allow your spirits, minds and bodies to send the intention out in harmony.

Tune in and receive to let this process serve you, and serve the world.   Focus on prosperity abundance, love, joy, money, wisdom and more good things for your life.  Feel the positive energy in your body and your spirit.  Intention that abundance will come to you.  And it will.

This doesn’t have to be a lengthy or time consuming process.  Five minutes is all you need to begin.  As you learn to use this marvelous power, wonderful means and support will come to you.

As you become proficient in the different levels of manifestation, you will discover marvelous synchronicities with those around you.  Intentional abundance is a quick and easy way to tune in and receive all kinds of wonderful benefits in your world!

Midlife and the Law of Attraction - Am I Really That Powerful?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

People often speak of miracles by saying that they experience the power of God as if the power of God was beyond anything we can readily imagine or experience. But the truth is, as we develop the receptivity to OWNING God’s power as our OWN and start to realize that it is within each and every one of us, we begin to develop what has been called the mental equivalent of that which we want to create. We get the KNOWING that it is already ours.

I can remember the first time, way back when, that I did a spiritual mind treatment or affirmative prayer. I remember feeling – wow – what I am speaking is really going to happen. In fact, it is happening as I speak. Do you remember the first time that happened to you? We get that there is a Power that we can use. We get to the knowing and owning that it is already ours. That’s when we come to see the miraculous as the ordinary in our experience. Do you really know how powerful you are? Do you know that the same power that is “out there” is in each and every one of us?

I remember once a woman coming to see me, whom I had not met before. She had only been to our church once, so she didn’t really know any of this teaching. She started telling me about a serious problem she was having with cancer. And as she was speaking, I got real clear that her problem had nothing to do with cancer. She began to share more and more, and began to tell me about the fact that she had been and was still in a very abusive relationship. She began to say to me, “I think that’s the issue. I’m terrified of stepping out on my own. Where would I ever get insurance? Who would take care of me? (Not that he was taking care of her!) I just listened and didn’t say a word to this woman. She sat there and looked at me and said, “I think I brought this into my life.” I would never have said to her, “You brought cancer into your life.” I don’t believe in that. You don’t want to look at people and say, “You have a cold – you must be doing xyz.” She said to me, “I’m beginning to realize that my allowing these experiences is actually causing and creating my experiences.” She was sitting in a chair and she suddenly jumped up out of the chair and said, “I’m powerful, aren’t I?” I said, “Yes, you are.” Then she said, “If I can do that, I can change my life.” She looked at me and started to cry, saying, “I’ve been through years and years of therapy and I’ve never felt free. I’m free.” I didn’t do a thing. She heard herself and in my presence, while I held a conscious space, she began to see her own power.

So, for all of us who are creating muck in our lives, see how powerful we are? Look what we can do. When we speak our word, and know what it is very clearly that we want, we can create it.
