How much is enough?

Enough for what? Enough for a subsistence level of life? Enough to just get by? We think: ‘If I have more than enough, then I’m greedy, I’m wasteful, and I’m preventing someone else from having their needs met. They are going to suffer because I took what was rightfully theirs. By having more than enough, therefore, I make others suffer, and that makes me a bad person. I want to be a good person, so I better not get more than enough in my life. It’s better to get too little and suffer, instead of getting too much and making others suffer.’ This is scarcity thinking.

Perhaps better questions would be: How can I contribute to others? How can I help people achieve their goals in life? How can I empower other people to become abundantly happy?

The Universe is abundant. We are children of the Universe. It is our nature to live abundant lives. Abundant in our feelings of love for our creator, our partner, children, family, and humanity. Abundant in physical health and fitness. Abundant with sources of intellectual stimulation and challenges. Abundant with feelings of gratitude for the gift of life. It is our nature to be overflowing with feelings of peace, love, and joy.

And yet, when it comes to money…‘How much is enough?’ How would it feel to be able to help a loved one with an insurmountable problem that they have, by throwing money at it? (Yes, get their permission first!) How would it feel to know that you are providing jobs and paychecks to people, thereby contributing to their enjoyment of life? The only way to be able to help others when they need it, is for you to have it before it is needed. Whatever it is. Anyone who owns a truck knows this!

Money is just an indicator of how much you have helped other people. Is Bill Gates wealthy because he is ripping everyone off who buys from him and works for him? Or is he wealthy because he is provides jobs, products, and services for the world on a massive scale?

You can be rich in your relationships, rich with health and vitality, rich with empowering emotions, rich with contribution and creative solutions. All thoughts of ‘enough’ will wash away when you are in this flow of life, when you concentrate on giving, not receiving. Naturally you will start receiving more, so that you will have more to give! IMHO
